Year 2021 in review: interactive crowd simulation in huge environments

We have achieved our 2021 milestone: creating huge navigation meshes (240 squared kilometers).

uCrowds presents interactive crowd simulation in huge environments. Common application areas include digital twins, the Metaverse, training and gaming.

What do agents need in order to move? – A navigation mesh. The navigation mesh consists of a roadmap, representing all possible global routes, and an exact decomposition of the walkable space into non-overlapping cells.

Our fast, parallel implementation computed the 240 squared km navmesh in 45 seconds. The navmesh supports real-time simulations for agents with different body sizes, and computing short global routes.
