Year 2021 in review: Real-time crowd simulation in a dynamic environment

We have achieved our 2021 milestone: real-time crowd simulation in a dynamic environment.

uCrowds presents interactive crowd simulation in dynamic environments. Common application areas include digital twins, the Metaverse, training and gaming.

To make a simulation, we take as input a virtual environment. A big part is walkable and the remainder is covered by obstacles. Efficient simulations require an acceleration structure that covers the walkable space. The resulting navigation mesh is updated in real-time when the environment changes. The agents' global routes are adjusted in real-time as well. Real-time crowd simulations are also supported in multi-layered environments.
