Introducing uConnect: Streaming simulations into your application

We’re wrapping up the implementation of our new software framework, uConnect, designed to streamline the process of transferring crowd simulation data between platforms.

🧠 What is uConnect? uConnect extends your digital twin, synthetic single environment (SSE), game, or simulation by integrating interactive crowd simulations. These can be visualized as either abstract density maps or detailed 3D animated characters.

🌍 How it works. At the client level, uConnect processes incoming simulation data and commands, making it adaptable to various applications. Whether you’re working with an interactive website, standalone app, or GIS server, uConnect ensures your crowd data is seamlessly integrated. Check out this Unity3D demo for a visualization example: Simulating 200,000 pedestrians in Unity.

⚡ Handling large data streams. Crowd simulation data can grow rapidly, especially when visualizing individual pedestrians in real-time (typically requiring 10 updates per second). To manage this, we’ve developed advanced spatial and temporal compression techniques, allowing for efficient data transmission without sacrificing performance or interactivity.

🔧 Interaction made easy. uConnect doesn’t just stream data—it enables interaction. For instance, users can dynamically modify simulations by adding obstacles, which can then be processed by our engine in real-time to update the simulation stream.

🌐 What’s next? We’re now integrating uConnect with a GIS server for Dutch safety regions, enriching their digital twin with our SimCrowds simulation program.
