Dutch trade mission to the US and Mexico
What an insightful week! We’re energized after joining the Dutch trade mission to the US and Mexico, gearing up for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
A key insight? Proactive crowd management is top of mind for every host city. They’re strategically preparing for a diverse, international influx of passionate soccer fans, recognizing how different this audience is from their typical guests. It was inspiring to see cities leveraging this moment for permanent infrastructure upgrades. We’re eager to explore how our simulation tools can support these crucial efforts – in sports and beyond.
Huge thanks to the organizers – Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Miami, Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), NBSO Texas, NBSO Mexico/Querétaro, KNVB and Sportinnovator – for a packed schedule of insightful visits, warm receptions, and open discussions. Thanks in particular to Daniël Wang, Maurice Ouderland, Bob Heere, Jan-Luc Blakborn, Janely Marcial Hernandez, Peter Koenderink, Stef van de Vijver, Michael van der Star, Daphne van Dijk and Paul van der Kolk for all the work you’ve put into this!
𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐝:
𝐃𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐬: Pitching at the World Cup Innovation Summit (thanks University of North Texas & Plug and Play Tech Center!) and visiting the iconic AT&T Stadium.
𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧: Speaking at the Soccer & Sport Innovation Summit in ION Houston (thanks TEAM HOUSTON!) and touring NRG Stadium & Shell Energy Stadium.
𝐌𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐜𝐨 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲: Visiting the legendary Azteca Stadium and attending a reception hosted by the Dutch Ambassador to Mexico.
A big thank you also to our fellow mission participants for the collaborative spirit: Reset Technologies, SciSports, USF.SPORT, Skinletics, Butlaroo, 50xlabs, and Sorama. Team effort makes the dream work!
The insights from sports venues often apply to urban planning, transport hubs, and more. If you’re exploring innovative ways to manage large crowds in any context, we’d love to share our learnings. DM us or visit https://www.ucrowds.com/
