Optimizing Crowd Flow for Nijmegen's Biggest Event

We’re thrilled to share how our crowd simulations are being used for the Vierdaagsefeesten in Nijmegen, one of the Netherlands' largest freely accessible events!

Working closely with the Gemeente Nijmegen, Veiligheidsregio Gelderland-Zuid and other partners, we’re leveraging digital twin technology to innovate for large public gatherings. Our latest project focused on improving pedestrian flow in a historically busy area.

Using SimCrowds, we simulated two interventions that the organizers were considering, including a one-way street scenario. The results were clear: this change significantly improved the overall flow of pedestrians, reducing congestion. This means safer, smoother experiences for everyone.

A cool bonus: we integrated photogrammetry data from Kavel 10 using our new 3D Tiles support, supported by the Cesium plugin for Unity. This provided a photorealistic view of the environment, making it easy to spot features like stairs and elevation changes that are crucial for accurate simulations.

We’re passionate about making events safer and more enjoyable through advanced crowd simulation. Stay tuned for more insights into how we’re bringing digital twins to life for real-world impact!
