Simulating millions talk at NATO workshop
Upcoming talk at NATO MSG-238 Workshop. We will give a talk at the MSG-238 19th Workshop on Commercial Technologies and Games for Use in NATO and Nations, entitled: Simulating millions: scalable pattern-of-life engines for dual-use applications.
📍 Rome | 🗓️ 25 September 2025
Introducing our modular simulation framework
We present our modular simulation framework that enables real-time, high-fidelity behavior modelling of millions of agents across both civilian and military contexts.
Overcoming performance bottlenecks
Built atop commercial game engines (Unity, Unreal Engine, VBS), our memory-oriented architecture overcomes longstanding performance bottlenecks in digital twin and synthetic environment simulations.
- Real-time visualization and animation of 100K+ intelligent agents
- Simulations exceeding 1 million agents in a single environment
- Surpassing any known real-time implementation to date
Smarter agents, richer simulations
Our solution integrates crowd simulation, environmental data, machine learning, and large language models (LLMs) to generate dynamic, doctrine-informed patterns-of-life at the individual agent scale. These agents exhibit believable, autonomous behavior suitable for:
- Defense training
- Urban operations planning
- Information warfare simulation
The platform supports rapid scenario creation, real-time control, and seamless switching between immersive and abstract visualizations.
Technical breakthroughs
In this talk, we will detail the innovations behind our performance, including:
- Memory-first architecture
- Distributed simulation
- Data standards enabling cross-domain integration
We will share lessons learned from civilian deployments (crowd safety, emergency evacuation, transport planning) and defense use cases (battalion-scale training and pattern-of-life simulation). We will also show how LLM integration provides a novel interface between human intent and simulation logic.
Towards M&S-as-a-service
We provide a working example of M&S-as-a-Service using our engine and commercial tools, demonstrating how open standards and COTS components can be harnessed for NATO’s next-generation training and operations platforms.
Our goal: to contribute to a shared roadmap that leverages commercial scalability for strategic advantage.
